據(jù)英國媒體《鏡報(bào)》（Mirror）報(bào)道，世界上第一條短信在其誕生近30年后，將以高達(dá)17萬英鎊（約合人民幣143萬元）的價(jià)格出售，再次創(chuàng)造歷史。
The worlds first ever text message is set to make history again as it is expected to fetch ￡170,000 nearly 30 years later.
這條短信在1992年發(fā)出，只有15個(gè)字母：MERRY CHRISTMAS（圣誕快樂）。
發(fā)送者是英國電訊商沃達(dá)豐軟件工程師帕普沃思，當(dāng)時(shí)，他在沃達(dá)豐的圣誕派對上，向公司高層發(fā)出了“Merry Christmas”(圣誕快樂)的短信。由于當(dāng)時(shí)的手機(jī)沒有短信功能，他是用電腦發(fā)出這條短信的。
不過，第一條短信的發(fā)送成功并不代表這項(xiàng)功能被普及使用。由于當(dāng)時(shí)的硬件和網(wǎng)絡(luò)上的限制（發(fā)送短信需要基于 GSM 網(wǎng)絡(luò)，而在 1992 年 GSM 網(wǎng)絡(luò)尚未完全成熟），短信真正普及到商用、民用是在數(shù)年以后了。
目前，該短信的“主人”英國沃達(dá)豐公司表示，將面向全球拍賣這條短信的虛擬副本，中標(biāo)者將收到一個(gè)包含發(fā)件人和收件人信無紡布廠家15838056980息的數(shù)字文件，其中包括他們的電話號碼和消息本身，并將擁有對該文件的專有權(quán)。
Vodafone is now selling a virtual replica of the text that is available to buy in cryptocurrency in a world first auction.
The winning bidder will receive a digital file containing information on the sender and the recipient such as their phone number and the message itself and will own the exclusive rights to it.

據(jù)悉，這次拍賣將于12月21日在巴黎舉行，所得收益將捐贈給聯(lián)合國難民署。
The proceeds from the online sale will be donated to the United Nations Refugee Agency.
沃達(dá)豐的首席執(zhí)行官漢尼斯·阿梅斯雷特 (Hannes Ametsreiter) 表示：“我們永遠(yuǎn)銘記世界上首條短信并將其進(jìn)行拍賣，以此聯(lián)結(jié)兩個(gè)時(shí)代的創(chuàng)新精神。”

阿梅斯雷特認(rèn)為，這條短信的誕生對于加速短信普及具有重要意義。
